Hawzah News Agency- (June 3, 2016) Original Islam is the kind of Islam which is neither fettered by a reactionary outlook nor by syncretism. During a time when these two things existed together – reactionary outlook and syncretism – Imam (ra) advocated original Islam. This was attractive to Muslim youth. (June 4, 2017) People must never forget that everything we have is by virtue of pure Islam and revolutionary Islam. This is an Islam that cares about the oppressed and the deprived, not an Islam that serves the powerful and the wealthy. Yes, there are others in the world who claim to represent Islam. But their Islam isn’t the Islam of Muhammad (pbuh).
It’s the Islam of Abu Jahl and Abu Lahab. It’s American Islam. There are those who have turned the name and claim of Islam into a tool for exploitation, plunder, and they use it to further deceive the people.
That is an Islam that serves the interests of capitalists, profiteers, and those who are holding billions of dollars in foreign banks. That isn’t the Islam we believe in. (March 22, 1990) One important point is the wise outlook that sincere activists throughout the Muslim world must have of the distinction between the pure Islam of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and American Islam. They must protect themselves and others from confusing the two. It was our great departed Imam (ra) who first spoke of this distinction and introduced it into the political vocabulary of the Muslim world. Pure Islam is the Islam of sincerity and spirituality, the Islam of piety and real democracy, the Islam of [firmness toward the disbelievers and compassion among themselves.] [19:29] American Islam, by contrast, is the practice of hiding subservience to foreign powers and hostility toward the Muslim Ummah under the guise of Islam.
Any version of Islam that increases division between Muslims, that places people’s trust in the enemies of God instead of in His promise, that wages war against fellow Muslims instead of confronting Zionism and global arrogance, or that aligns itself with the arrogant US against its own people or other nations isn’t Islam. It’s a dangerous, deadly form of hypocrisy that every sincere Muslim must oppose. An understanding that’s grounded in insight and deep reflection reveals these truths and fundamental realities of the Muslim world to every sincere seeker of the truth, and this makes current duties and responsibilities unmistakably clear. Hajj with its rites and rituals provides a precious opportunity for acquiring this insight. (Sep 30, 2014) It was because of Islam that God turned people's hearts toward the Revolution, its Leader, and the people of Iran. What gave your feet the strength and your hearts the resolve to travel long distances and come here was pure Islam - an Islam that defends the oppressed and refuses to submit to the oppressor.
It’s this Islam that draws hearts together, unites them, and gives rise to an immense, invincible force. This is the fundamental secret that we must understand clearly and always keep in mind. As long as the Islamic Revolution continues to move faithfully along the true path of pure Islam - the path of Imam Khomeini - and as long as you, the people, continue to put your faith and Islam above all else, to preserve the spirit of defending Islam and its values, and to uphold the powerful slogans that spring from the very essence of Islam, neither the US, nor East nor West, nor reactionary forces, nor any other power will be able to prevent you, your country, or the Islamic Republic from moving toward its goals.
(July 12, 1989) From the viewpoint of Islam, following and accepting the wilayat of the enemies of religion and arrogant powers are among the things that believers should avoid: [Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of taghut] [The Holy Quran, 4: 76]. If you move on the path of taghut in the name of Islam, you should know that this kind of Islam is fake, that it is not real and that there is a problem. (June 29, 2014) By its very nature, pure Islam is deeply compelling. It draws the hearts that are free from malice and ill intent to itself.
This is precisely what our Revolution and our Imam (ra) once again presented to the world, offering it to hearts and eyes that were searching and yearning for the truth. In the school of the Revolution founded by our Imam (ra), the Islam of the Sufyanis and Marwanis - the Islam of hollow rituals and empty ceremonies, the Islam that serves wealth and power, the Islam that is a tool in the hands of the powerful and an affliction to nations - was cast aside. In place of such an Islam, there was the emergence of the Islam of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), the Islam of faith and Jihad, the Islam that stands against the oppressor and comes to the aid of the oppressed, the Islam that confronts the Pharaohs and Qaruns of every age, the Islam that strikes down tyrants and establishes the rule of the downtrodden.
In the Islamic Revolution, the Islam of the Quran and the Sunnah replaced the Islam of superstition and religious innovation. The Islam of Jihad and martyrdom replaced the Islam of passivity, captivity, and humiliation. The Islam of devotion and reason replaced the mixed interpretation of Islam and ignorance. The Islam intended for this world and the Hereafter replaced the Islam of worldly indulgence and monastic withdrawal. The Islam of knowledge and understanding replaced an outdated Islam and an Islam of heedlessness. The Islam of faith and politics replaced the Islam of permissiveness and indifference. The Islam of rising up and taking action replaced the Islam of lethargy and despair.
The Islam for both the individual and society replaced the Islam of empty formalities devoid of purpose. The Islam that saves the oppressed replaced the Islam that was a plaything in the hands of the powers. And in short, the pure Islam of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) replaced American Islam. (May 31, 1990) If you see people who claim to follow Islam but they compromise with the enemies of Islam, this is because they bear the name of Islam, but deep within they know nothing of Islam.
Some of these reactionaries in our region - these so-called Muslims, these people who call themselves Muslims - invoke the name of Islam and profess allegiance to it while using all manners of deception in order to mislead the minds of the people. Such people have nothing to do with Islam. It’s only natural that those people tremble and fear before the disbelieving powers.
But true, pure Islam is never intimidated by anything, and nothing can defeat it. (Aug 26, 1990) Today there is only one way for the Islamic Ummah to restore its dignity and identity: returning to Islam, of course genuine Islam, not a rigid and ineffective Islam that is mixed up with the superstitions that are promoted as Islam by the enemies of Islam, not an Islam that has been modified to fit with American principles and with what westerners have in mind, both of which are instances of American Islam. Our magnanimous Imam (r.a.) made a distinction between "American Islam" and "pure Muhammadi Islam". Pure Islam is the Islam of monotheism and Muslim unity, the Islam of [Allah will by no means give the unbelievers a way against the believers] [The Holy Quran, Sura an-Nisa, Ayah 141], "The kind of Islam that is superior to all and inferior to none", the kind of Islam that says, [If the people of the towns had believed and guarded (against evil) We would certainly have opened up for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they rejected] [The Holy Quran, Sura al-A'raf, Ayah 96].
Returning to this kind of Islam is the only solution for the Islamic Ummah and this is possible. Today the movement towards this kind of Islam has engulfed the entire world of Islam, from east to west, and this is what has panicked the enemies of Islam. (May 19, 2003) This is because they fear that Iran may inject the ideas and thoughts of the real Islam - the kind of Islam which promotes jihad, independence, dignity and identity and the kind of Islam which regards the domination of foreigners and enemies over the Islamic Ummah as a sin and which does not at all accept it - into other Islamic societies and this may multiply their problems. They know that those thoughts and ideas that awaken a nation - a nation like our nation which was colonized during the time of taghut - bring it into the arena, make it try hard, take away its fears, bring it into the arena of great international battle and help it emerge victorious out of this arena at all stages are very dangerous for those who loot the world and for those who have made many plans for the Middle East region, its oil and other such things.
They do not want to let this happen. Of course, they have made many efforts, but they have failed to this day. (Aug 19, 2007) Be suspicious of the kind of Islam that is favorable to Washington, London and Paris, be it laïcist and westernized or rigid and violent. Do not trust the kind of Islam that tolerates the Zionist regime but confronts Islamic denominations in a brutal way, the kind of Islam that extends a hand of peace and friendship to America and NATO but fans the flames of domestic sectarian and tribal conflicts, the kind of Islam that is cruel to believers and compassionate towards unbelievers. Be suspicious of American and English Islam because it will lure you into the trap of western capitalism, consumerism and moral decline. (Feb 3, 2012) Notice that today, first-tier materialistic powers in the world have become paralyzed in West Asia which they refer to as the Middle East.
Today, America has been paralyzed in West Asia. In the present time, they have certain goals, plots and plans in this region. One part of these goals is strengthening the arrogant base of the Zionist regime in the region. Another part of it is seizing all sources of power in the region so that governments stand under their umbrella. They want to use the resources of these countries and to rule over the region, but they have failed in the present time. What has prevented them from achieving their goals? Revolutionary Islam or the Islamic Revolution – both phrases are correct: both revolutionary Islam and the Islamic Revolution are correct. Today, this has been manifested in the Islamic Republic. This has prevented them from achieving their goals. (Aug 21, 2016)
